Secondsut: You’re record stands at 19-1(5), your only loss was to Wendy Rodriguez by technical decision in the sixth round. What can you tell us about what happened during this bout.
Carina Moreno: The cut was caused by a punch that the referee didn’t see. It came during the fourth round. I was just starting to come on.

SO: Would you like a rematch or has there been any talks of a rematch?
CM: I would love a rematch with her. We have tried to make the fight but she doesn’t want it. That is my only loss and I would love to make up for it.

SO: You have just recently won the IFBA and WIBA Minimum weight titles (108lbs). Do you see yourself defending your Light Flyweight titles?  Continue Reading…

Shaun George Signs Promotional Deal with Dibella Entertainment

Light-Heavyweight contender Shaun George is “excited” to announce that he has inked a promotional deal with Dibella Entertainment. George will retain his former promoter, Donna Duva-Brooks, as his adviser. George is ranked #8 by the WBC and #13 by the IBF.

George, 17-2-2 (8 KO) is coming off his biggest win to date, a ninth-round TKO over future Hall of Fame inductee and two-time heavyweight champion Chris Byrd in May.

“The Byrd fight was an eye-opener for what I’m capable of, but it’s not everything I can do,” says the Brooklyn native now training out of Northern New Jersey. “I want to prove that I’m the best in the world and to be the best, you have to beat the best. Signing to Dibella will bring me the opportunities to get the bigger fights I need.

“All I should be worrying about is fighting and with this great team, I can focus on working my way towards a world title.”

“I’m thrilled to work with someone who I’ve not only known and respected for a long time,” says promoter Lou Dibella, “but someone who has his career on the fast track. He had a terrific victory over Chris Byrd, I think he has established himself as one of the best light-heavyweights in the world. This is his time and I’m glad to be a part of it.”

“Working with Dibella Entertainment puts Shaun in the best possible position because this will help him land big network fights,” says Donna Duva-Brooks. “He has a tremendous upside and now we’re just working on raising his rankings with the sanctioning bodies.”

George is aiming at a November return, possibly against Glen Johnson. If that match can’t be made, Dibella says that George will fight a stay-busy fight geared towards landing a major bout in the early part of next year.

George has been calling Glen Johnson out for more than a year but it wasn’t until recently that the fight became a realistic possibility.

“I want the fans to understand why I’m calling his name. I’m calling him out because no one wants to fight him. I respect the man as a fighter, he deserves to be ranked number one across the board. He has never ducked anyone but the champions and contenders are ducking him. That’s why I want this fight. I want to do what Antonio Tarver, Chad Dawson and Roy Jones Jr. couldn’t do, and that’s knock him out. I’ll fight the man toe-to-toe if I have to, it doesn’t matter. The outcome will be the same, I will win.”

Adds Dibella, “He’s in the prime of his career and we anticipate a great ride over the next few years.”

Walker Set For The Rematch On “Radisson Rumble” From ESPN

Radisson Rumble Poster

Walker vs. Echols
Michael Walker (r) connects with a big right to the head of Antwun Echols.

September 3, 2008 (Merrillville, In)- On Friday October 3rd, Michael “Midnight Stalker” Walker (18-1, 12KOs) returns to action at the Radisson Hotel at Star Plaza as he battles Antwun Echols (31-8, 27KOs) in a rematch from their epic main event on ESPN 2’s Friday Night Fights in February. Their first meeting resulted in a draw and Walker has every intention of erasing that blemish off his record. Since their first encounter, Michael Walker suffered a hard fought unanimous decision loss at the hands of David Lopez on Solo Boxeo. The Chicago native is excited about fighting once again in front of the loyal One In A Million Boxing fans who have supported him for years.

“This is the biggest fight of Michael’s career. There’s no denying the magnitude of the rematch against Antwun Echols. He knows he has to come back and put on a dazzling performance in order to remain a top middleweight contender. Despite taking the fight on only a couple weeks notice, Michael put forth a tremendous effort against David Lopez who is an extremely talented fighter. Walker has been entrenched in one of the most intense training camps he has ever been a part of. I have no doubt that on October 3rd at the Radisson Hotel at Star Plaza the world will see the best Michael Walker ever. I also have no doubt we will see the best Antwun Echols ever. Together, both Walker and Echols are sure to produce a middleweight war. “Said One In A Million Inc. CEO Octavius James”.

Last August, Michael Walker picked up one of the biggest wins of his career when he defeated Dante Craig on the undercard of the Diaz/Morales PPV card. The Chicago native thrilled the nearly 10,000 hometown fans at the Allstate Arena as he knocked out the former Olympian in round 2. He is no stranger to a fight of huge implications.

Walker vs. Echols 2Michael Walker having met Antwun Echols once before knows he must bring his best on October 3rd in their rematch. The Chicago native is preparing for more of the back and forth action he encountered in their first meeting.

Pictured left: Walker and Echols first high intensity bout ended in a draw.

Walker is working with an array of sparring partners that are pushing him to the limit, so he can be at his absolute best come October 3rd. The “Midnight Stalker” knows a win over Echols can propel him to mega fights with some of the top contenders in the middleweight division. Michael Walker senses the time is now for him to make a big splash in the middleweight division. One thing is for certain the fans in attendance are going to see one tremendous fight between two world-class middleweights.

This Thur., Miller & Miller Lite Present One In A Million’s Official Weigh-In at Langel’s Pizza

January 29 (Merrillville, IN) - Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana fight fans are invited to Langel’s Pizza, 2833 Highway Avenue in Highland, Indiana, this Thursday at 6 p.m. for the official boxer weigh ins for One In A Million’s six-bout card the following night. Sponsored by Miller and Miller Lite, the Miller Girls will be at Langel’s taking photos and awarding prizes including tickets to Friday night’s six-bout boxing card at the Radisson at Star Plaza in Merrillville. “We’re looking forward to another great year with Octavius James’ One In A Million and Miller,” said Rodney Langel, owner of Langel’s Pizza. “Boxing and Miller is the perfect one-two combination.” In Friday night’s main event, One In A Million’s franchise player, Michael “The Midnight Stalker Walker” (17-0-1, 11 KOs) looks to keep his unbeaten streak alive by making quick work of Jerome Elder of Indy. Highly touted by boxing insiders, Walker is a top middleweight prospect in a division deep in talent. When asked who he wants next, Walker responded, “Ronald Hearns. He says he’s the ‘Chosen One.’ Let’s see him choose to step in the ring with me. We’ll see if he’s made of the same stuff that his daddy (Thomas Hearns) was. I doubt it.”At 5′1″, featherweight Evette Colazzo may be the smallest fighter on the card, but she may be the biggest in action. A two-time Chicago Golden Gloves Champ, “KO Queen” Colazzo (2-0, 2 KOs) faces a very brave Kim Colbert on Friday.

“Evette might steal the show,” said Octavius James, CEO of One In A Million. “Her size is deceiving. When this little Latina enters the ring and starts throwing great, big bombs, the crowd goes wild.”

Fight fans love the hard punching heavyweights and on Friday night, the big boys return to action at the Radisson when One In A Million’s undefeated heavyweight Michael Parker (5-0, 4 KOs) steps into the ring with Leo Sylvest (5-3, 3 KOs) of Indy. With Parker winning 4 of his 5 bouts by KO and Sylvest winning 3 of his 5 bouts by KO, this one should be exciting… while it lasts.

One In A Million stablemates, featured in separate bouts, include super middleweight Jimmy “The Fighting School Teacher” Holmes (16-1-2, 9) of DeMotte, super middleweight Derrick “Superman” Findley (9-2, 5) of Gary and welterweight Ed Ochoa (2-0, 2) of Hobart.

Tickets, priced at $100 VIP, $75 VIP ringside, $50 ringside and $30 general admission, are available from Star Plaza Theatre box office at (219-769-6600) or from any Ticket Master location at (312-559-1212) or (219/791-1234) or www.TicketMaster.com.

“Sharp Shooter” Remillard now a moving target

 wbcPress

“Champions of Tomorrow” Friday night at Foxwoods Resort Casino

Press Release

PROVIDENCE (January 22, 2008) – One sure sign of respect in boxing is when a fighter calls out a potential opponent in the media. It’s rare for a boxer with only 11 pro fights to be such a target, especially one coming off of a 15-month inactive stretch due to an injury, but that’s exactly where Manchester favorite Matt “Sharp Shooter” Remillard (11-0, 7 KOs) finds himself.

Remillard is preparing for Friday night’s (Jan. 25) 10-round title bout against WBC Youth featherweight champion Manuel Perez (11-3, 2 KOs) in the co-main event on “Champions of Tomorrow,” promoted by Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment & Sports, Inc., at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut. Remillard has been out of the ring since suffering a wrist injury, twice requiring surgery, after he won the WBC Youth super featherweight (September 23, 2006) that Matt was unable to defend and relinquished because of his aforementioned injury.
Perez’ first lost was in 2006 to Rashiem Jefferson, who is now 15-0-1 (6 KOs) and reportedly has been in Denver sparring with Perez, who surprisingly chose to defend his title belt on the road. According to an Internet report, Jefferson claims that he has been trying to fight Remillard for quite some time but Matt hadn’t accepted, and that Rashiem was familiar with Remillard and would give Perez a great look at Matt’s style.
“If he (Jefferson) has been calling me out,” Remillard responded, “I don’t know who he was supposedly contacting. I’ve been out of action for 15 months. If he had called my promoter, Jimmy Burchfield, we’d probably be fighting him for his title (USNBC) this Friday night. I saw Jefferson around in the amateurs. He’s a respectable fighter, but for him to call me out and talk like I’m nobody, well, that’s a slap in my face.
“He’s helping Perez but I couldn’t care less. Jefferson doesn’t fight anything like me and if they think he can imitate me, they’re both in for a big surprise. I’m just focused on Perez right now. I’ve had the best training camp of my career preparing to fight him. Jefferson sounds like a clown.”
Jefferson and his manager plan on accompanying Team Perez to Foxwoods. “I hope they have tickets,” Remillard’s promoter, Jimmy Burchfield, remarked. “They’ve never contacted me about fighting Matt or for anything else. After Matt beats Perez we can talk about Jefferson possibly being next on Matt’s dance card.”
2004 U.S. Olympian Jason “Big Six” Estrada (10-1, 2 KOs) squares-off against former world heavyweight title challenger Charles Shufford (20-7, 9 KOs) in the other 10-round, co-main event on “Champions of Tomorrow.”
Two other Connecticut fighters will be in action. Hartford light welterweight Addy Irizarry (3-1, 2 KOs), a corrections officer at a Connecticut prison, faces Tonya Gallegos (4-6, 2 KOs), while recent University of Connecticut graduate Brian Macy, a poker card dealer at Foxwoods who is from Ledyard, makes his pro debut versus super middleweight Pete Guthy (1-1-1, 1 KO).
Unbeaten cruiserweight prodigy and 9-time U.S. amateur champion, Aaron Williams (15-0-1, 11 KOs), battles former world kickboxing champ Manu Ntoh (17-13-1, 10 KOs) in an eight-round match.
New England fans have waited quite a few years for Friday’s light heavyweight showdown between Iraqi War-veteran Chris Traietti (7-0, 4 KOs) and “Irish” Joey McCreedy (5-1, 4 KOs) in a six-round bout. Throwback middleweights Richard “Bobo” Starnino (8-2-1, 1 KO), of Providence, and New Bedford’s Eric Pinarreta (1-1, 1 KO) bring an old-fashioned border war brawl into the ring for their four-rounder.
Also on the undercard in four-round bouts are undefeated Rhode Island super middleweight Angel Camacho, Jr. (8-0, 4 KOs) versus Terrence “TJ” Jones (10-10, 6 KOs) and unbeaten Brockton super middleweight Manuel Antonio Lopes (4-0, 1 KO) meets John “The Baptist” Michael Terry. All bouts and fighters are subject to change.
Former world title contender “Sucra” Ray Oliveira will be inducted into the CES Ring of Honor in a ceremony during the “Champions of Tomorrow.” Unbeaten heavyweight contender “Baby” Joe Mesi (36-0, 29 KOs), promoted by CES, will make a special presentation to Oliveira.
“Champions of Tomorrow” will be taped live and air on Saturday, February 2 at 7:30 p.m. on CN8 and will also stream online at www.CN8.tv. Following the broadcast, the show will be available ON DEMAND to Comcast Digital Cable customers for at least one week. “Champions of Tomorrow” will also air on Cox Sports Television on February 1 at 8:30 p.m.
Tickets for “Champions of Tomorrow” are priced at $40.00, $65.00 (Silver), $100.00 (Gold) and $150.00 (Jimmy’s Platinum Club). Two VIP Presidential Suites are also available (call CES for details as well as sponsorship opportunities). To purchase tickets or for additional information contact CES (1.401.724.2253/2254 - www.cesboxing.com) or Foxwoods (1.800.200.2882/www.foxwoods.com). Doors open at 6 PM/ET, first bout at 7 PM/ET.
